Signalfire Review:
After Version Collective’s successful inaugural vinyl release featuring the Austrialian B9 selling out quickly, the sunny record label based in Miami is ready for another delightful digital affair that is worth your time and ears. They are proud to announce the signing of DEEP MEDi affiliate K Man (the Phantom).
K Man’s recent physical releases cross a vast span of labels such as the accredited Tribe 12, Lion Charge, Circle Vision and of course DEEP MEDi Musik.
He has decided to share some music in digital format via Version Collective, which is blessed by a special catalogue number to celebrate his fresh contribution to the label. Although opener ‘Sushi’ sounds like quite the dark affair, its soft ARP-programming acts as a warm-up to inbound, futuristic vibes: K Man brings forth a blazing bottom-end that syncs with an up-tempo percussion craze and stabbing bass line. Without the track being ‘too hot to handle’ just yet, the second drop really reveals otherwise, as there is grime territory marked out right after the ARP. This, together with the genius sample use, flushes out the outer edges of both verses – and projects the feeling of a tsunami engulfing you in tasteful vibrations. These comfortable, yet militant flavours take part in the right setting ‘a la Version Collective’.
K Man is after an even smoother feel with his emotive ‘Tranquillity’; a stepper beating in sync with one’s heart instantly. It entraps solitude, open-mindedness and beauty inside a dubstep structure, which will remind many of the golden years of the sound. It compresses bass weight under an enveloping synth line, which will induce an array of goose bumps that travel down the spine. Reaching higher pitched tones swiftly, the calm frequencies in ‘Tranquillity’ intensify this record.
Before you know it, you’ll be reaching a meditative state of mind, something not uncommon when listening to the already existing Version Collective repertoire from back in 2015.
The Londoner Theo Kayman, commonly known for his stellar productions spanning across different styles in dubstep, is ready for his next digital release.
He takes his sound into different directions this time, far from the wicked wobbles and reggae dubs that were released at the start
of 2016. The producer never fails to serve your eardrums with high-grade, smokey bass music.
